Your Place Housing Support Service

Project Description

I was a previous client at Your Place and accessed many of their amazing services including Louisa House. When I first presented at the organisation my daughter and I was escaping a very severe Domestic Violent relationship and our whole lives had been turned upside down for my daughter and I. I trusted no one but the staff were so supportive.

They were patience, empathic and understood where I was at and what I needed as I had no clue. To cope with what I was experiencing I had developed an alcohol and drug problem which I hadn’t realised just how unmanageable it had become and the effects it had on my daughter and I.

After a while I felt safe enough to disclose this to the staff as I knew I needed support and I could not go on the way I was living. The staff understood and did not judge me, in fact, they got me the support I needed. I did not know how much support is out there for women and children so having the support and guidance from experienced staff was great. I had to rebuild my life and my case worker helped me step by step and was there for me every step of the way regardless how big or small.

Even though I had applied for Housing NSW I decided to have a change of environment and ended up in ACT housing. I cannot recommend Your Place enough. It’s hard to trust after such a life changing event however the staff there are so kind, caring and experienced with what they do that I’m so grateful I took a healthy risk to be open and honest and allow them to help my daughter and I. I still keep in touch with the staff that work there today and let them know how my daughter and I are doing.
